Joys of Motherhood

I've been reading General Conference talks on parenting recently and came across a talk given by Elder Ballard called "Daughters of God".  It is a wonderful talk and it was wonderful to read it again this past week.  But today I LIVED it!  It was a wonderful experience and something very appropriate for mother's day weekend, I thought!  So I had to come blog about it! of course... ;)

One of the things Elder Ballard said in this talk was "Recognize that the joy of motherhood comes in moments. There will be hard times and frustrating times. But amid the challenges, there are shining moments of joy and satisfaction."

I know this..but today I experienced it!

Last night we got home really late after gathering together with family to open my cousin's mission call.  He is going to be serving in the San Jose, California mission speaking Mandarin Chinese!  We are all very excited for him!  It is even cooler that he already can speak Chinese (having lived in China for the last 2 years of his High school Career).  Because of this, however, we got home with our kids at about 12:30 this morning.  We have a newborn, so I was up at 3:30 and 7 to feed him.  Then Kamryn decided to get up at 7:30 this morning.  Ryan had to leave for work at 9:00.  After Ryan left, Kyler was grumpy and gassy...couldn't fall asleep.  Once I finally got him down, Kamryn was very grumpy and was having a hard time going to sleep too.  Then when she finally fell asleep, Kyler woke up and has been grumpy this afternoon.  I am exhausted!  I need a shower!  I'm still in PJ's and it is 2:00 in the afternoon!!
I was feeling very frustrated and on the verge of tears.  I decided to turn on some church music to help lift my spirits and calm my kids... (which worked beautifully I have to say) ... and then I turned on the computer and started to read some blogs while rocking Kyler.  Then the "shining moment of joy and satisfaction" came.
Kamryn climbed up to the computer and started pretending to type.  Then she started touching the screen and "scrolling" with her finger like she does on the Ipod touch!  And to her, it was working! (because I was using the arrow keys to scroll the screen!)  It was too cute!  I couldn't not smile and laugh!  What a smart little toddler she is!  She is so technologically advanced!  And so sweet and innocent and happy overall!
Then we went out to the front room and we were talking about some toys and movies.  I asked if she wanted to watch Mickey and she said, almost plain as day, "Mickey"!  Another tender mothering moment for me.  Kamryn's language is slowly progressing and we work so hard on it with her every day...it's always fun to hear a new word or two!  (And the fact that it was something I LOVE was wonderful as well!) :)

These 2 things may not mean much to you...but I had to record them.  I see these two small and simple experiences as tender mercies from the Lord.  A way to remind me that although today has been a challenging day as a mother...it is all worth it!  I love my kids. I love being a mom!  I wouldn't trade it for anything!  I'm so grateful to be a mom--and that Heavenly Father trusts me with these sweet spirits!  And that he knows when I need some lifting and help--I'm not alone!

(And another tender mercy---Kyler is asleep in my lap so I can record this and blog about it!) :)

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!  Remember that your job as a mom is the most important thing you can do!
Remember that you are loved and appreciated by your kids, your husbands, and your Heavenly Father!

Why do I do this to myself?!

Both kids are sleeping. Ryan is at work. I had a hard time waking up this morning.  My patience is draining... I should be sleeping. I should be sleeping.  I should be sleeping.

But no, I'm blogging and scrapbooking and picture organizing!

And I ask, why do I do this to myself?!

But the answer is--I don't enjoy sleeping like I enjoy "creating"!

My physical body is the reason I need sleep---but my spirit and emotional self just won't have it!

Where is the balance (and the sanity)?! :)

Started Scrapbooking again tonight!

So during the last few months of pregnancy, I kept telling myself to scrapbook, scrapbook, scrapbook...but I just couldn't get myself to concentrate enough and enjoy it enough!  So I didn't do it!

But I think the bug is back and I am LOVING IT!!!

Here are some pages I did tonight!  (Got a little anxious ...wasn't expecting to get so many done!) :) yay

I didn't take very many belly shots when I was pregnant with Kamryn.  But with Kyler...
I took PLENTY!!

2 Weeks Stats

Took Kyler to the doctor yesterday for his 2 week well baby check up.

I was anxious to find out his weight because he already feels bigger to me (good thing but I mean significantly bigger).
We took Kamryn with us because she was due for another vaccination that we missed at her 18 month appointment.  She is so fun in the waiting room now---loving the fish tank and way into the disney movies they play.  It's fun to watch.  Then we went back and the nurse started poking and prodding Kyler.  I thought Kamryn would be a little weirded out by them doing stuff to Kyler and making him cry...but she was actually really good about it.  AND she even started getting a little jealous!  SHE wanted to get up on the table and SHE wanted to lay down.  But then as soon as I started pretending to measure her head size...she changed her mind!  Sooo funny!

Nurse did Kyler's PKU test.  He hardly screamed/cried.  SOOO different than Kamryn.  He kinda cries when he first gets poked (like it's uncomfortable) but then settles down!  What a good baby!
Kyler Stats:
Weight: 7 lbs. 4.5 oz.  (He weighed 6 lbs. 11 oz at birth, but by the time we left the hospital he was 6 lbs. 3 oz.  SO...I was happy that he has gained a whole pound back in 2 weeks!!) :)  12th percentile
Height: 19 3/4 inches.  (19" at birth) 17th percentile
Head size: 14 inches.  22nd percentile

He's growing so fast.  It's really hard for me to believe that he's already over 2 weeks old.  You're looking forward to them coming for SOOOO long and then time just zips right on by after they get here!  Seems a little unfair to me, don't you think!?! :)

After the Doctor came in and talked with us and checked Kyler, the nurse came in to do Kamryn's shot.  She wasn't so thrilled...but she settled down very quick after the nurse was done!  I was very impressed.  In past appointments she has been screaming for a good 5-10 minutes after the nurse leaves! :) Guess it's a sign that Kamryn is really growing up!

Yesterday Kyler recieved a "2 week" present from my Aunt Tami!  It is the CUTEST blanket on earth!  It is bright blue with bright animals on the front, and then bright yellow and blue paw prints on the back!!  So darling! :) I absolutely LOVE it!!  I'm so lucky to have family that are crafty and creative! :)

All snuggly after bathtime! (which btw he is liking more and more and more!) :)

{Visitors, Gifts, Temple, 2 weeks}

Tuesday, Kyler received a visit from our dear Relief Society President and dear friend, Laurie Ann.  She was so sweet to come by and visit and brought the CUTEST blanket from the presidency for Kyler.  Then, as if it wasn't enough to just have a fun little visit, she offered to watch him and hold him while I showered.  What a saint! :)  Unfortunately, I didn't get a picture of him WITH Laurie... (which means you'll have to come back and visit again soon, Laurie!  Bring Peter to play!) :)

Tuesday night, Kyler had a couple more visitors: Great Grandma and Grandpa Seamons from Idaho.  They came down to join us for Uncle Eric's first temple session.
It was wonderful to go to the temple again!  It has been at least 4 months since Ryan and I went. (end of pregnancy makes it really really tough!)  But it was wonderful and I hope we don't wait another 4 months before we go again!  (However, being a nursing mother now...it was almost too long to be gone from my baby!) :)
We're so proud of you, Eric!  So excited for you to go on your mission in a couple of months!

2 weeks old:
We have his 2 week appointment tomorrow---I'll report his stats asap!
(I'm very anxious to know what he weighs now!)

The best Daddy

Ryan came home last night while I was starting dinner.  When I went back into our room later, I found this on the bed!
He got me a card, some Almond Joys (yummy), and a movie night! (we bought The Blind Side for Easter for ourselves, but still haven't watched it yet!).
Here's the card:
I thought it was very cute!!  It totally lifted my spirits after a couple of rougher days!

Then he signed it:
Ryan, Kamryn and Kyler

(still hard to believe we are now a family of 4)

I love my family!  I'm so lucky!
